eddings point late day - 16x12"

I paint at this boat landing all the time even though this painting is not plein air. I am sort of making the scene the way I want it to be....might have to go back and collect some more info to finish it. The weather has been much better recently so I have been getting out to do some studies (finally!). The next month may be lighter than usual as far as posting goes since the Beaufort Art Association's Spring Show is coming up next week (I will be working) and my daughter is getting married on April 11th!!!! so I have assorted tasks relating to that. I want to get a couple of more things posted  before I'm swept into busy-ness.

beach scene and street corner

I've completed this 10x20" beach scene and am pretty pleased after having to repaint the bathing suit about three times!

Began this 12" square painting this week. It's still pretty cold outside here and everything looks gray and tired.....yesterday I gave up working after two hours because I could not get the studio warm enough and I just threw an unwitnessed tantrum and went in to the house and read a book the rest of the day. I haven't invested in a more powerful heater because it's usually not needed in this area (it is semitropical) and I don't want to waste the space it would take up. It's much better today and my out of sorts mood is gone! 

batik suit - 10x20"

 The girl's bathing suit will be batik fabric if I get it right.......I scraped this down at least three times before I quit today. It remains cold and miserable - plein air just isn't happening for anyone down here at the moment. Waiting for spring!

experimenting with color - 18" square

It has been nearly impossible to work in my studio the past week - my little space heater can't adequately heat the place It's moderated a bit the past few days but this winter has been very cold down here. We have all of these lizards that I worry about........one little Carolina Anole that lives behind my electric meter looks pretty damn skinny (he comes out and sits there when it's warm enough) and I swear I can see his little ribs so I hope it warms up soon. I have nearly finished this one and actually tried to paint outside this morning but it began to rain pretty hard so I had to stop. Oh well, the sun's beginning to come back. 

"peace" - 20x16

I have wanted to paint this for about a year...........when I was out painting a landscape at Hunting Island, I paused to take some reference photos and these three guys rode past. At the time I saw them, I thought that the front guy was waving at me but when I looked at the photo later I saw that he was giving me the peace sign. I thought it was pretty neat when I discovered that! I have a little more work to do on the right hand side.....the water is done with very thick paint and I couldn't get some of the finishing touches to stick. Bicycles are pretty hard to do convincingly and I already see problem areas but that's for another day when it's dry enough.

from the bluff - 12x10"

Just a quick study done on Monday from the bluff over the intra-coastal waterway at Beaufort. It's the first week in what seems like months that the weather has cooperated for our plein air group on Monday morning. 

hazy, hot and humid - 11x14"

Still going through some adjusting with my new bifocals but was able to begin this painting today and get pretty far with it. It's been really gloomy and cold here (I'm not whining, really) and I was missing those hot and steamy days we get down here. Usually, the gray, humid days don't inspire me all that much but what can I say?
