Lots of people fish around here and there are innumerable boat landings.............this guy was coming back early one morning to the landing on Lady's Island. Lady's Island is across the Intracoastal Waterway from Beaufort.

houses on the dunes - 22x10"
I am nearly done with this - just a few changes on the porch of the house on the right (when the paint sets up a bit). I have my taxes nearly done and, after a few panicky moments when I thought I had "lost" an entire quarter of receipts, feel much better that I stopped avoiding the task. I still have five plastic bins marked "personal" from the move and hadn't remembered that I had already organized the first quarter right after the first quarter last year! That's what six months of packing and moving will do I suppose.

early morning beach scene - 22x10"
I just began this painting in the morning but things are going well. I have an entire box of Utrecht 22" stretcher bars that someone gave me and, despite trying to use standard sizes (to make framing easier), I am growing fond of this very elongated shape.

beach day - 2nd stage - 10x22"
Not quite done yet but I thought I would post an update anyway. I have set Monday as the day the I really, truly (honestly) begin getting my taxes in order and find a new accountant......thought I should get a couple of posts in. It won't be bad because I really did much of it before I moved but I am in avoidance mode and I find that putting it on the calendar fixes that for me.

Hunting Island Light study - 9" square
I don't often paint lighthouses......primarily because they don't fit into compositions that are pleasing to me. It's kind of a weird spot, surrounded by trees and kind of far back from a very erroding coastline. For some reason I found this view interesting.

beach day with friends - 10x22"
Sorry about not posting this week.........my daughter was here from Austin for spring break and I did more sightseeing, shopping and eating at restaurants than painting. It was great to see her and she hadn't been here before so it was fun to explore a bit with her. I am trying to push the color on this one so it will be interesting to see how it develops. Spring has really hit the south and my yard is blooming big time so I will have to do some floral stuff because it is totally awesome!

dark duck - 12" square
I discovered this great wildlife area near Hilton Head (Pinckney Island National Wildlife Refuge) and hiked to Ibis Pond within it. The pond is a bird rookery and was unbelieveably interesting visually. There is an island in the center and all the trees are loaded with birds and their nests; also, alligators in warmer weather (still haven't seen one since I moved here).

study - Carteret St. 10x8"
Carteret St. is one of the main streets in Beaufort.....it is particularly appealing early in the morning when the sun is coming up behind the homes and there is no traffic.

woman..........step 2
Not the best photo but the wind continues so I have been unable to work outside today. We had a lot of wind the other day and then 2 full days of rain and thunder.......we had 4" of rain yesterday! This painting requires multiple layers so it is time-consuming but I am making progress. Unfortunately I have to get on my taxes this week so painting time might be less.
